Introducing Community MicroApps: Hyper-Local Mobile Apps for Colchester Neighbourhoods

We're building Community MicroApps as part of the Colchester.City project. These are dedicated mobile apps for individual neighbourhoods across Colchester where residents can share updates, ask for recommendations, buy and sell locally, report safety concerns, and stay connected with what's happening nearby. It's invitation-only with location verification. We're starting with Highwoods as our pilot community, with plans to roll out to other areas across the city shortly afterwards.

We are excited to announce a new project for pet owners - a mobile app that creates a neighbourhood watch network for pets by connecting community members to help find missing animals. Using location-enabled mapping, users can see which pets are missing in their immediate area, view detailed profiles with photos, and report sightings directly to owners through built-in messaging. The app features a personal dashboard for managing pet reports, an alerts centre for tracking communications, and a gallery showcasing successfully reunited pets to provide hope and learning opportunities. The platform is free for pet owners and operates on the principle that by actively watching for other people's missing pets during daily activities, users build a community network that will reciprocally look out for their own pets if they ever go missing, with the strength of the system growing as more people participate in helping each other.
